I have always used books as a means of escape, and I know that I am not the only one out there that does the same thing. Books have the magical ability to transport us to a different land. I am also like many and overthink every scenario to the point of absolute exhaustion. I will often find that when I get too caught up in my head, I have a hard time giving in to the magical powers of a really good book.
To combat my own flaws, I have searched for new ways to keep my brain on track and really enjoy a book. I went back to my college days when I had to write a 30-page thesis unfolding the intricacies of novels that have been read and annotated hundreds of times. How was my analysis going to differ from those before me? Well, when I come back to working on reviewing books, I faced a similar roadblock. There are so many Instagram book reviewers out there, so what would make me stand out?

I believe that the quality of the story is the most important aspect of any novel. I started to document the storytelling that I am immersed in while reading. I have started taking notes at the end of each chapter. I jot down a quick sentence about character, plot, and sometimes mood. I have found that this helps me stay focused and invested in the material.
Do you take notes while you read?
